NYC

NYC was officially our first adventure using the Southwest Companion Pass. If there is anyone out there that I haven’t tortured through a schbeal on how to get it, let me know. Basically, we earned a lot of points by getting two southwest  credit cards. Now, we get one free ticket when added on to a paid (with money or points) ticket for the rest of this year and next. Yahooey 2-for-1 travel...

So NYC baby...

Saw the bright lights of time square (or just down broadway from it because we were hungry).

Ate some delicious ramen at Zen Ramen & Sushi. Best tofu I have ever had..

Woke up our first day to some pretty coffee

And then jumped on a ferry to see the lovely lady of liberty and her pretty Manhattan skyline.

The ferry also dropped us off at Ellis Island for a history lesson. We walked thru all the steps that an immigrant had to go through when they came to America.  We were even luckier because one of Kelly’s student just taught a lesson about Ellis Island and so she had all the low down.

We rounded out the day with a Broadway musical. We went to a TKTS booth in time square, where they have discounted same day tickets. We got our hands on half priced Beautiful (the Carole King) musical. The theater was so cool, we were 9 rows away, center stage, and they served you wine in sippy cups.  Wouldn’t have even cared if the show was good. We had no idea what to expect going into it, but we ended up loving it so much. We would highly recommend it.

The next day, we went to the 911 memorial and museum. It was a moving and beautiful place.

Then, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. Couldn’t have a trip here and miss this.

We had lunch at Esme in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, a delicious restaurant owned by a guy from Montana...What??? Thanks Jared for giving us all the information to make it to your brother’s restaurant. It did not disappoint!

My cousin Megan and her husband Johnny had us over for dinner in their beautiful Brooklyn apartment. We had so much fun hanging with them and meeting Alastair and  the famous flying dog. This is the view from their rooftop deck, yes that’s the Manhattan skyline and yes they can see the Statue of Liberty anytime they want.

We rounded off the trip with a snowy walk thru Central Park.

It was a whirlwind trip and so much fun! We already know what we want to do when we come back. We just don’t know when we will fit it back in the rotation. Travel problems... sorry even I rolled my eyes at that one.

Next companion pass trip Houston, Texas... get excited.
